Dreaming of canvas holidays

Today I had the excitement of a Costco trip! With friends! And no children!

Not only do I now have a freezer full of meat and cheese and other goodies like naan and tortillas, but I found one more thing essential to our plan to try out camping this coming summer. I found a tent for good price!
Our back "yard" is too small to put it up, but we'll find somewhere to try it out...

We now have almost enough equipment to do a couple of basic nights. Air-beds and sleeping bags are probably the main missing element, but there are people we can borrow these from.

We're getting excited. Boys get so excited by constructing things, I'm sure that we'll be able to burn up a good amount of energy setting up a tent (we'll have to see how much patience they can muster).

One of the motivations in trying out camping is to explore other areas of Japan than where the OMF holidays houses are, without paying for expensive accommodation and restaurants. After living in Japan for nearly nine years we've seen pitifully little of the country. It seems a pity. Now our boys are all out of that highly dependent baby-toddler stages, it's time to spread our wings a little. Watch this space in a couple of months for further news on the camping front.

Good to see you still have the energy to look ahead to summer. "A people without a dream will perish..."

Oh, our experience of three boys at home for the last three weeks has reminded us very much about making plans for summer. We will not survive nearly three months of them without plans to get out and about!
