World Suicide Prevention Day - Japan's shocking figures

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Japan has announced an estimate that the economic impact of suicide and depression in 2009 was 2.68 trillion yen, or about US$32 billion. Their suicide rate is about 24.4 deaths per 100 000 people. Compared to the US rate of 11.0. Any suicide is shocking, each of these people are someone's child, spouse, parent or friend.
